Students spend approximately 24-40 hours per week in class and clinic during the fall and spring semester, and 40 hours per week in clinical rotations during the summer. |
Clinical Experiences Each student has eight clinical experiences spaced throughout the program. The experience length varies from 1-6 weeks. Types of settings include acute, rehabilitation, outpatient, pediatrics, geriatrics, and private practice. Over 80 sites are available to the program and are located in Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia. |
Faculty There are two full-time and one part-time faculty members. Both of the full-time faculty members are engaged in clinical practice. The faculty to student ratio is 1:8. |
Enrollment The total number of students at the college is approximately 4,000. The PTA program accepts 16 students annually; transfer students are eligible. |
Admission The deadline for application to the program is May 1 for the class beginning the following summer. Included in consideration for admission are grade point averages (GPA) in prerequisite courses, observation hour evaluations, written responses to an essay question, and professional interview questions. All pre-technical courses must be completed with a C or better and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required. Observation forms for 20 documented hours of observation in two different physical therapy settings (acute/long term and outpatient) for a minimal of 40 hours total are required for consideration into the program. CPR and First Aid certification is necessary prior to the clinical phase of the program. Please contact the program for a complete list of prerequisites. |
Outcomes 95% of admitted students graduate from the program (3-year average); 93% of the graduates passed the licensure exam (3-year average); and 97% of those program graduates responding to surveys are employed (3-year average). |
