CAPTE Staff

  • The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Accreditation Department is comprised of 9 individuals who provide support for the activities related to on-site visits and CAPTE meetings. Staff are also available to respond to questions about the accreditation process.

    Mary Jane Harris, PT, MS (Director)

    Mary Jane has 20 years of experience in the Department of Accreditation, 15 of which have been as director. Prior to joining the staff, she served on the faculty of the physical therapist program at Northern Illinois University for 15 years, both as academic coordinator of clinical education (ACCE) and program director. She has also served as an on-site reviewer and as a member of CAPTE. She has been a physical therapist for more than 40 years.

    Ellen has been managing the physical therapist (PT) team in the accreditation department since August 2001. Prior to joining the accreditation department, she was involved in physical therapy education for more than 20 years, having been an academic coordinator of clinical education (ACCE) at a physical therapist education program and a program director and ACCE at three physical therapist assistant (PTA) education programs. She also has been a team leader, candidacy reviewer, chair of an appeals hearing and a member of the PTA panel of CAPTE. She has been a physical therapist for 32 years.

    Doug has been managing the physical therapist assistant (PTA) programs since 2008. He has worked in higher education as a faculty member, institutional administrator, and accreditation volunteer and staff member during the past 24 years. Prior to joining the CAPTE staff, he worked for almost a decade as the chief academic officer and vice president for academic affairs at a Washington, DC, area multicampus for-profit institution.

    Anastasia DiCicco (Accreditation - Pre-accreditation Specialist)

    Anastasia recently joined the Accreditation Department and will be working with PT and PTA programs in the development process. She possesses a BFA degree from DePaul University in Chicago, IL and has completed post-graduate coursework at Hunter College's School of Social Work in NYC. Prior to joining the Accreditation Department staff, she worked at the Yoga Alliance in Arlington, VA as a Credentialing and User Enhancement Specialist (after starting with the same organization as a Communications and Finance Specialist a couple of years earlier). She has also worked as a Crisis Counselor at the Southern Arizona Center against Sexual Assault and as an Executive Media and Technology Recruiter with Bond Street Group, LLC.
