• The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education is a group of 31 individuals, with varied backgrounds, who are charged with:

    • determining whether a program meets the standards of quality in physical therapy education
    • determining what standards of quality to use (i.e., the Standards)
    • setting policy and procedure for the accreditation process

    The Commission is divided into three working groups: 10 members comprise the PT Panel, which reviews PT programs; 13 members comprise the PTA Panel, which reviews PTA programs; and 8 members comprise the Central Panel, which makes all candidacy decisions.

    In order to serve on CAPTE, most members must have served in the Cadre of On-site Reviewers and have participated in at least three on-site visits. The three public members and the consumer member are exempt from this requirement, though they do observe a visit following their appointment to CAPTE.

    Members of CAPTE are physical therapist educators and clinicians, physical therapist assistant educators and clinicians, basic scientists, higher education administrators, and representatives of the public.

    Central Panel Members

    Frank Bates, PT, DPT, MBA, Term 1/1/18-12/31/21, is adjunct faculty and prior physical therapist assistant program director at the University of Indianapolis. He is an outpatient physical therapist with IU Health in Indianapolis, Indiana. He has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist assistant programs since 2014. Dr. Bates serves on the Central Panel as active participant in accreditation.

    Patricia Gordon Brown, PT, DPT, MS, Term 1/1/17-12/31/20, is director of physical therapy and therapeutic recreation at National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2001. Dr. Brown serves on the Central Panel as a PT clinician.

    Kathryn G Dodge, PhD, Term 1/1/19-12/31/22, is the principal owner of Dodge Advisory Group LLC; Excellence in Education Policy and Practice in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Her earlier career experiences include serving as executive director of the New Hampshire Higher Education Commission as well as director of admissions at Keane State College. Dr. Dodge serves on the Central Panel as public member.

    Beverly J Johnson, PT, DSc, Term 1/1/20-12/31/23, is Associate Professor Emeritus at the University of North Dakota Department of Physical Therapy. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 1997. Dr. Johnson serves on the Central Panel as a recent member of the PT Panel.

    Becky Lynn Keith, PT, MSHS, Term 1/1/20-12/31/23, serves as program director of the physical therapist assistant program at Arkansas State University in State University, Arkansas. Ms. Keith serves on the Central Panel as the consumer of accreditation.

    Pamela D. Ritzline, PT, EdD, Term 1/1/18-12/31/21, is dean of the School of Behavioral & Health Sciences at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2003. Dr. Ritzline serves on the Central Panel as active participant in accreditation and is vice chair of the Commission.

    Kevin Rudeen, PhD, FASAHP, Term 1/1/19-12/31/22, is Professor Emeriti from the College of Allied Health at University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2011. Dr. Rudeen serves on the Central Panel as higher education administrator.

    Doreen Stiskal, PT, PhD, Term 1/1/17-12/31/20, is currently chair of the physical therapy program at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 1995. Dr. Stiskal serves on the Central Panel as a recent member of the PTA Panel and is chair of the Commission.

    Kevin K Chui, PT, DPT, PhD, Term 1/1/19-12/31/22, is director and professor of the physical therapy program at Pacific University in Hillsboro, Oregon. He has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2015. Dr. Chui serves on the PT Panel as physical therapist educator.

    Diane Clark, PT, DScPT, MBA, Term 1/1/17-12/31/20, is adjunct associated professor and former director of the physical therapy program at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2011. Dr. Clark serves on the PT Panel as physical therapist educator (curriculum development).

    Patricia Arnone Deotte, PT, DPT, CEEAA, GCS, Term 1/1/18-12/31/21, practices as a clinician at Rehabilitation and Wellness at Genesis Rehab Services in Bridgewater, New Jersey. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2003. Dr. Deotte serves on the PT Panel as physical therapist clinician.

    Leah Dvorak, PhD, Term 1/1/20-12/31/23, is Professor and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon, Wisconsin. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2001. Dr. Dvorak serves on the PT Panel as physical therapist educator (basic sciences).

    Daniel E Erb, PT, PhD, Term 1/1/20-12/31/20, is Dean of the Congdon School of Health Sciences at High Point University in North Carolina. He has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2009. Dr. Erb serves on the PT Panel as an ad hoc member.

    Peggy Blake Gleeson, PT, PhD, Term 1/1/20-12/31/23, is DCE and associate director in the School of Physical Therapy at Texas Woman's University in Houston, Texas. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 1997. Dr. Gleeson serves on the PT Panel as physical therapist educator.

    Joyce R Maring, PT, DPT, EdD, Term 1/1/18-12/31/21, is department chair of the Health, Human Function and Rehabilitation Department at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 1996. Dr. Maring serves on the PT Panel as physical therapist educator (academic administration) and is chair of the PT Panel.

    Cedric Page, PhD, Term 1/1/19-12/31/22, is professor emeritus at University of New Mexico-Los Alamos. He resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and serves on the PT Panel as public member.

    Sandra L Pennington, PhD, RN, Term 1/1/20-12/31/23, is Chief of Staff, Office of the President, at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Utah. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2013. Dr. Pennington serves on the PT Panel as institutional member.

    Paul L Price, PharmD, BCPP, Term 1/1/18-12/31/21, is Senior Associate Dean at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2014. Dr. Price serves on the PT Panel as higher education administrator.

    Laura Lee (Dolly) Swisher, PT, PhD, FAPTA, Term 1/1/20-12/31/20, is Professor Emeritus at University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, and currently resides in Prosper, Texas. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 1996. Dr. Swisher serves on the PT Panel as an ad hoc member.

    Patricia A Trela, PT, DPT, CMPT, SCS, Cert-DN, Term 1/1/17-12/31/20, is a PT clinician in an outpatient orthopaedic clinic at the University of Utah. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2003. Dr. Trela serves on the PT Panel as clinical teacher and is vice chair of the PT Panel.

    Cindy I Buchanan, PT, PhD, Term 1/1/17-12/31/20, is program director of the physical therapy program at American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. Buchanan also served as coordinator of a PTA program for six years. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2010. Dr. Buchanan serves on the PTA Panel as physical therapist educator and is vice chair of the PTA Panel.

    Jason A Dougherty, PTA, MEd, Term 1/1/17-12/31/20, is acting assistant dean of instruction at Delaware Technical and Community College-George Campus in Wilmington, Delaware. He has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist assistant programs since 2014. Mr. Dougherty serves on the PTA Panel as physical therapist assistant educator.

    Neal L Henning, PhD, Term 1/1/20-12/31/23, is dean of career education at Florida State College at Jacksonville. He has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist assistant programs since 2008. Dr. Henning serves on the PTA Panel as institutional member.

    Sharon A Reid, PT, MBA, Term 1/1/18-12/31/21, is program director and ACCE at Carroll Community College in Westminster, Maryland. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist assistant programs since 2007. Ms. Reid serves on the PTA Panel as physical therapist assistant educator and is chair of the PTA Panel.

    Kimberly Crealey Rouillier, PT, DPT, Term 1/1/20-12/31/23, recently retired as department chairperson of the Rehabilitative Health Department at Community College of Rhode Island in Newport. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist assistant programs since 2008. Dr. Rouillier serves on the PTA Panel as physical therapist assistant educator.

    Richard J Saia, PT, DPT, Term 1/1/20-12/31/24, is currently Clinic Director for ATI Physical Therapy in Collinsville, Illinois. He has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist assistant programs since 2016. Dr Saia serves on the PTA Panel as a PT in clinical practice who supervises PTAs.

    Elane K Seebo, PhD, Term 1/1/19-12/31/22, is vice president of external campuses at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist assistant programs since 2001. Dr Seebo serves on the PTA Panel as institutional member.

    Lisa L Stejskal, PTA, MAEd, Term 1/1/20-12/31/23, is a PTA practitioner and grant director/adjunct faculty at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, Massachusetts. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist assistant programs since 2014. Ms. Stejskal serves on the PTA Panel as physical therapist assistant clinician.

    Russell Brent Stowers, PTA, EdD, Term 1/1/20-12/31/23, is the director of rehabilitation services at Christus St Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist assistant programs since 2010. Dr Stowers serves on the PTA Panel as physical therapist assistant clinician.

    Brad Thuringer, PTA, Term 1/1/18-12/31/21, is instructor and academic coordinator of clinical education at Lake Area Technical College in Watertown, South Dakota. He has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist programs since 2011. Mr. Thuringer serves on the PTA Panel as physical therapist assistant educator.

    Tracy Timmermann, Term 1/1/18-12/31/21, is a financial planning professional. She resides in St Petersburg, Florida, and serves on the PTA Panel as public member.

    Lisa J Weaver, PTA, MS, Term 1/1/19-12/31/22, is an adjunct instructor teaching online allied health courses and resides in Clarksville, Tennessee. She has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist assistant programs since 2013. Ms Weaver serves on the PTA Panel as physical therapist assistant educator.

    Bradley A Wood, PTA, BHSc, MATL, Term 1/1/19-12/31/22, is program director of the physical therapist assistant program at Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio. He has been an on-site visitor for physical therapist assistant programs since 2016. Mr Wood serves on the PTA Panel as physical therapist assistant educator.
